Understanding the formation of CuS concave superstructures with peroxidase-like activity.

چکیده
Copper sulfide (CuS) concave polyhedral superstructures (CPSs) have been successfully prepared in an ethanolic solution by a simple solvothermal reaction without the use of surfactants or templates. Two typical well defined, high symmetry CuS concave polyhedrons, forming a concave truncated cuboctahedron and icosahedron were prepared. The effect of the reaction time, temperature and different Cu ion and sulfur sources on the formation of CuS CPSs were investigated and a possible formation mechanism was proposed and discussed based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. More importantly, we found, for the first time, that the CuS CPSs exhibit intrinsic peroxidase-like activity, as they can quickly catalyze the oxidation of typical horseradish peroxidase (HRP) substrates, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and o-phenylenediamine (OPD), in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. In addition to the recent discoveries regarding peroxidase mimetics on Fe(3)O(4) NPs and carbon nanostructures, our findings suggest a new kind of candidate for peroxidase mimics. This may open up a new application field of CuS micro-nano structures in biodetection, biocatalysis and environmental monitoring.

Catalytic degradation of dye molecules and in situ SERS monitoring by peroxidase-like Au/CuS composite.
In this paper, Au/CuS composites were fabricated by a two-step method based on a facile solvothermal approach combined with the in situ reduction. It was demonstrated that the Au/CuS composite not only exhibited excellent peroxidase-like catalytic activity in the oxidation of the typical peroxidases (o-phenylenediamine and diaminobenzidine), but also showed promising SERS performance with remar...
متن کاملA one-pot and in situ synthesis of CuS-graphene nanosheet composites with enhanced peroxidase-like catalytic activity.
CuS-graphene nanosheet (GNS) composites with well-defined morphology have been successfully fabricated via a simple one-pot hydrothermal route by using thioacetamide (TAA) as both the sulfur source and reducing agent. The as-prepared CuS-GNS composites with an appropriate content of graphene exhibited an even higher peroxidase-like catalytic activity than pristine CuS nanoparticles in acetate b...

Objective(S): Natural and artificial enzymes have shown important roles in biotechnological processes. Recently, design and synthesis of artificial enzymes especially peroxidase mimics has been interested by many researchers. Due to disadvantages of natural peroxidases, there is a desirable reason of current research interest in artificial peroxidase mimics. Metho...
متن کاملInverse correlation between glutathione peroxidase activity in psoriatic cutaneous lesions and the severity of the disease
Background: Psoriasis is a chronic-relapsing inflammatory skin disorder, in whose pathogenesis oxidative stress is suggested to be involved. Among different enzymes that play a role in maintaining the cellular redox balance, we aimed to assess the alteration of glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activity in cutaneous lesions and its correlation with the disease severity, firstly, to support the possi...
متن کاملControlled synthesis and catalytic activity of copper sulfide nanostructured assemblies with different morphologies.
A simple, template-free and mild solution chemistry route was employed to synthesize diverse copper sulfide (CuS) nanostructured assemblies at 70 °C by varying the solvent (water or ethylene glycol, or their ratios (3:1, 1:1 and 1:3)). The CuS structures in the shape of spheres and nanotubes were found to be assemblies of either nanoplates or nanoparticles. The nanotube formation was elaboratel...
